Stress-Free Monday

This week’s Monday wasn’t a stress at all. We had an option to either attend our lectures or not since video streamed lectures are available online an hour after classes are held. Cool huh? I wish we had this back in the Philippines. :)

We went to Uni to get the results of our blood test regarding our immunization. Luckily, I only lack Influenza and Hep B vaccines. I got the latter for free as part of our Uni’s Nursing Service. Found out each Hep B shot costs $20 (3 shots needed). Laking tipid ko lang. Yehey! :)

The weather was great so we took advantage of it by taking lots of photos! :)

Okay, what happened last Friday night was totally the opposite of Katy Perry’s experience. :)

Anakat and I were invited to attend a private house party at Glenelg last July 29. It was organised by some people we met during the Tea Party at our Uni. We looked forward to this day because we knew it was our chance to meet new friends. And there’s no doubt, we did! :)

My imagination of a house party was similar to those American chic flick movies I’ve seen – red plastic cups, wild girls looking for hot guys, totally wrecked home, drunk dead bodies on the floor, name it! I was so curious of how the party will turn out.

The party started at 8pm. Surprisingly, people were on time, obviously because they’re not Filipinos. I’m so used to parties starting an hour later than the set time – Filipino time. Basically, everyone was standing and talking to some stranger-not-anymore and then moves to another group to meet more people. I met people from Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Norway, Scotland, Bangladesh, Africa, Argentina and more. The entire night was spent talking to ‘foreigners’ (as what Anakat and I call people not coming from the Philippines, when in fact we are the foreigners) and drinking some home-made beer.

This was definitely an experience! I’m hoping there’s a part 2. :)

Anxiety Attacks

I hope I can be as smart as Hermione.

Tomorrow's my first day at uni! I scanned through our uni's student portal and had an idea of what to expect in class. After attending several days of orientation, I can't help but feel scared and anxious. Yikes! I have no idea how school runs here in terms of lectures, assignments and exams. Some say it's easy and some say they had a difficult time. This is definitely a big adjustment to make, include with it the adaptation to the culture, weather, people and transportation (I haven't mastered my bus' timetable haha) that I haven't fully absorbed yet.

I hope I can handle everything so I can look for a job as well. I want to know how hard school is about to be before I make my next step. My studies are my priority. That's the reason why I am here in the first place. :)

Orientation Days

Attended a three-day orientation at uni last July 13-15.

Our uni has been very keen in keeping all international students comfortable and at home before classes commence. It’s great how they offer various services for health, fitness, academics, jobs, discrimination and more.

Our orientation includes morning tea (term used for merienda) and lunch. These breaks allowed us to mingle with other overseas students. Having been exposed in a multi-cultural environment felt like I was in a chic flick movie. Haha. It’s also weird how you can easily tell who are Filipinos based on their looks and accent. Lukso ng dugo? Haha.

Birds here are everywhere! They follow you when you have food. Mga PG ata. :p

Last Friday I sat beside a boy whose name was Ernestes. When I asked where he came from, he said “@#$%*”, that sounded something like ‘eleyoley’. I asked again and he repeated it slowly. I, having no idea of the place and spelling (can’t even pronounce it) said, “Where is that?!?!” Found out it was somewhere in Europe. I remembered the movie Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants which casts Kostas as one of the lead men. Parang magka-uri name nila. At the end of the day, nosebleed! :)

Our school also provided us with a bag that contains notes about knowing Adelaide more.

We got a free one week pass at our uni's gym. Time to work out! :)

We got confused on where to ride our designated bus since it was our first time. Some random Australian talked to us and gave us a timetable. He even showed us where our bus was. We called him an 'angel'. :)

Here's a photo of us with a kangaroo! Inflatable kangaroo! Haha. This was one of the prizes thay gave away during orientation. Luckily, we didn't get it. Haha.

Here's us sitting in front of the lake. I say this is a place of relaxation but not in this cold weather. Maybe in summer. :)

Next week we have an orientation mainly for nurses. I hope it turns out fun. Plus, we have a Tea Party on Friday. Time to meet friends! :)

Uni Visit

Today is my second day here in Adelaide. Today seemed to be better than yesterday. :)

This morning we got to visit and tour our uni, Flinders. I love how friendly and accommodating Australians are. Kahit may ginagawa, tutulungan ka. And they always leave a smile after every conversation. Plus, I love the accent. :)

Our school is like UP Diliman back in the Philippines. You need to ride a Loop Bus to get to another building. Unfortunately, on our visit today, the Loop Bus never showed up. Haha.
