I've been wanting to bake crinkles but I couldn't find time because my entire day is spent with my kids. One day, while Yuri was asleep and Caleb was still in a good mood, I decided to take the challenge. Yes, I consider inserting extra curriclar activities a challenge because 1.) it eats up time, 2.) my kids are unpredictable and can throw tantrums anytime and 3.) it's just so difficult and dangerous to have kids in the kitchen while I work.
Luckily, everything fell into place and my crinkles are perfectly cooked. My family loved it and my husband gave praises to it.
Cooking is my happy hobby. Sometimes I scroll on Pinterest interesting dishes, and if I find something feasible, I couldn't wait to make it. Of course, the kids are my major distractions that's why I have to make it late at night when they're asleep.
Today I made Chicken Curry. My husband loves curry so I might as well try making one for him. It's my first attempt and I found a way to make it in a short time. I used McCormick's Yellow Curry Mix which I found in the grocery. It has simple instructions: brown the chicken, dilute the powder, pour in chicken, add coconut milk and simmer. I had some revisions because I didn't want to end up with malansang chicken. So, I happily sauted it in garlic, onions, ginger and fish sauce. Then I added eggplants for the veggie factor. Instead of coconut milk (which I don't have), I used all purpose cream. I don't know if that's acceptable but it's all I have.
I tasted it and there's something odd or missing for me, but I didn't want to add anything else because I might destroy the supposed flavor of the curry mix. Hopefully, when my husband eats it tonight, he'll approve of it.
My love for food makes me imagine different types of anything edible. Out of nowhere I thought of asizzling bangus that's overloaded with gravy. It's actually the gravy that I craved for not the fish itself.
I think I'm becoming a great cook as time goes by because there are times when I don't follow recipes, I just try to imagine how it's done and then I'm able to come up with a delicious dish. It really makes me happy especially for someone who doesn't have any background in cooking.
Last night, I decided to give this dish a try. I was so happy at how it turned out that I took a photo and posted it online! My husband loved it too and that's the best part. :)
I was craving for gyoza one time, but I knew that eating out would be costly. Of course, I'd end up ordering not only gyoza but other stuff as well. Hehe.
I scanned different recipies on Pinterest and I encountered some with hard-to-find ingredients. Good thing I found one that has ingredients that I already have in the pantry.
Making it was easy (with the help of a foos processor) because you just need to mix everything together. But assembling them in dumpling wrappers took most of the time. I also figured that the secret to the gyoza was the taste of cabbage and sesame oil. Once I put those two it instantly smelled like a legit gyoza!
I have my family to give it a try and they loved it, especially my sister. Unfortunately, my husband is not a fan of gyoza so when I asked if it was delicious he said that he doesn't really know the taste of a real gyoza but he thinks it is similar to what I made.
Experimenting on food is a great hobby to satisfy not only myself but the entire family as well. :)
Baking always has a special spot in my heart. I don't know why but, somehow I find peace when baking despite all the mess it involves. I started baking when I got pregnant in 2013. I didn't have a job to pre-occupy myself so my husband and I decided to give baking a try. Who knew I have a talent for this that I was able to start an online business for desserts. I thank God for this talent. :)
Now that I have a 1-year old, 90% of my time is alloted for him and baking is my least priority at the moment even though I find it as a stress reliever. Maybe, when my kids already go to school would be the best time to start exploring in the kitchen again.
This is the latest creation I did for the second time. Luckily, my sister was free to look after Caleb so I had enough time to do all the clutter. It's tough though, to work fast paced because I didn't want to bother other people in taking care of my child. In short, baking is one of those "irrelevant tasks" that I can leave undone.
Anyway, I'm just glad that even at second try, my cupcakes were a blast! I used a better tool for the frosting compared to the previous one, so it looked way better this time around.
My husband even wanted me to look at the costing for possible addition to our products.
I see myself working in the kitchen again with my apron on and oven preheating in the near future. It's something that I wouldn't give up even when I get old. :)
My sisters and I love food that we find cooking together a hobby. Sometimes we make our individual specialties, and at times we work on one dish together.
We thought of this snack randomly and we were surprised that it was a hit to the family. It's a simple dish yet a mouth-watering experience!
Ingredients:
Ground meat (chicken, pork or beef, your choice)
Tomatoes
Onions
Grated cheese (Eden)
Taco Powder
Pita bread
Procedure:
1. Cook meat in taco flavor. Follow instructions at the back of packet.
2. Dice tomatoes and onions separately. Season tomatoes (salsa) with salt ad sugar.
3. Grate cheese.
4. Assemble on pita bread:
Fold pita bread in half.
Put meat, onions and cheese on one part of bread. Put generous amounts of ingredients. :)
Fold bread.
5. Cook in oven toaster until slightly brown.
6. Cut in triangles.
7. Serve hot.
8. Dip in tomato salsa.
The secret to this is the taco flavor and cheese to attain the Mexican vibe. Seriously, it tasted like the ones in Taco Bell. If you have sour cream it would taste better.
Last Saturday my family prepared nacho salad as we watched movies during the night. We have this plastic bowl/tray that separates each ingredient - onions, cabbage, grated cheese, ground beef and tomatoes, which prevents it from getting messed up.
Today we still have the leftovers from the nachos and I still have about 1/4 cup of sour cream (which I used for potato salad) that I don't want to waste. Since I was craving for a Mexican dish, I thought of using all the left ingredients to come up with a homemade snack. :)
Quesadilla
Ingredients:
Tortilla bread
Ground beef (sauted and cooked with taco powder/seasoning)
Onions
Greens (lettuce or cabbage)
Grated cheese
Sour cream
Salsa:
Finely cut tomatoes.
Heat tomatoes in the oven and season with salt and sugar.
Procedure:
1. Top tortilla bread with whatever ingredient you desire. :)
Here's what I made:
Three sets with ground beef, onions and cheese.
Two sets with sour cream and cheese.
2. Cover with another tortilla bread.
3. Heat in oven for 15 minutes at 170 degrees.
4. Cut into triangles.
5. Plate and serve with salsa and sour cream.
This is a very easy and cheap dish that requires creativity. Haha. My family loved it! My cousin even said it tastes like Taco Bell's quesadillas.
Now that my cravings are on hype, I try to satisfy myself with as little expense as possible. For this specific day I woke up thinking of pizza rolls. I remember my good friend, Foxy, bringing this snack for potluck on one of our gatherings. So I searched for the recipe and voila!
I asked my mom to buy me the ingredients, however making it was very tiresome (maybe just for me). As a newbie, I took time cutting the ingredients and preparing the dish. I had to ask for my mom's help to finish rolling the breads.
Traditionally, you deep fry the pizza roll. I tried cooking it using a Turbo but the bread crumbs tasted raw. It did became crunchy, though. I guess same thing goes when you cook it in the oven. I don't know, maybe there's an ingredient missing for it to be cooked non-deep-fried way.
So, we settled with the old-fashioned style of cooking it - deep frying. It turned out good, in fact, great! I guess the secret for this recipe is the oil. My family liked it. My sister even brought it for baon the next day. There will definitely be a part 2 of this recipe. :)
Next time, I will try to saute the tomato sauce with onion, garlic, bell pepper and whatever I can think of for it to be more tasty. What I made was a bit bland because I used a pre-packed tomato sauce.
